Last year Modern Lantern moved out from our dining table and home office and into a great dedicated work environment where we are fully focused on our startup venture. Now imagine how great it was to hear we were accepted into the small business program at IDEA Works, Fort Worth's incubator space. So now it's time to create our uber efficient small work space!
The first thing we did was paint the office a clean Alabaster White SW 7008 (which happens to be Sherwin Williams color of the year for 2016;) When you have a small space that you are working with, light and white is the way to go. It just makes the small space look a little more airy and simple.
To maximize space in our tiny 300 sq foot office in Fort Worth's historical Southside, we used a 100 year old front door, and cut it in half, vertically, and then rested it ontop of IKEA's modern Besta cube units. Ended up looking very unique, mixing vintage and modern, and costed us very little! I added some custom built keyboard trays that were on glides and we even used the old door knob hole to fish the cords through and give us a clean work space. We also used Container stores 'cord control' to help organize the cord chaos with two computers on one shared desk for a simple clean look. You might guess exposed cords kinda give us the shakes! Ha.

Naturally, we also LOVE to show off our beautiful cordless lamps! So again to get a custom look we headed over to our local Container Store where a designer sat down with us and helped us plan out our exact needs and dimensions for our display ELFA shelving. Again we went with white to really contrast, making our lamps the hero.

Because our lamps are rechargeable and we have 10 or so in one small area, you have to have an efficient and clean way to keep those batteries charged. NO problem! we picked us up a Quirky pivot power surge protector that easily fits those larger plug packs all in one place. Nice and neat, like we like it.
We are so happy with our home away from home, and while we miss hanging with our pets, we do love when humans come visit us at Idea Works. So next time you are in the neighborhood, please stop in and say "Hi", we'll be happy to show you around and who knows, we may give you a sneak peek at what we are working on next!
