Is it from a "real" company that specializes in manufacturing cordless lamps? A company you can really communicate with, that offers actual customer support, a warranty and a physical location. Often if you buy something on Amazon, don't expect it to be serviced or repairable once it starts to fail. More than likely it will end up in a landfill in 1-2 years from purchase. So simply going by price isn't always the best answer. Like Dad says, "You get what you pay for."

Real Useable Light Output.

Read through the specifications and do your homework on the performance expectations. For example how bright is the lamp? If you are hoping to light up a living room or expect to read by the lamp you want a lumen output well above most inexpensive options. You might require 400-700+ lumen output (equivalent to a real plug in lamp). While 200 lumens might be OK for a romantically lit dinner table, you certainly will think it is more of a "nightlight" if it sits on your side table in a living room. Also look for warmer bulb output that is inviting in your space. A 2700 Kelvin color temperature or slightly lower is ideal for that warmer glow that looks inviting in a well designed space.

Performance Times that Actually Work for You.

Another big factor is the performance time? If you are having to move the lamp to a USB outlet to charge for 8 hours and then the lamp only lasts for 8 hours on "On" time, then what is the point? If the lamp recharges via USB, that means the lamp operates only at a 5 volt level, not as powerful as a dedicated 12 volt model. If the lamp is really just a rechargeable LED bulb that sits in that lamp's socket, imagine the size of the battery small enough to sit inside the bulb. Performance times will be low simply due to the small size requirements.

Look for rechargeable lamp performance times that meet your demands of really using the lamp in your home or commercial restaurant. If you really desire a battery operated lamp that supplies a minimum of several days of "On" time, those models do exist. A lamp that has a removable battery pack is ideal when you want the lamp to stay on the table where it should versus having to pick up the lamp and carry it to a plug to recharge, say in your kitchen. That is an awkward method. Now if the lamp has a removable battery pack and you can even purchase a spare battery, that means you will never have any downtime. Now that's ideal!

Design Matters!

Design is important when it comes to the look, scale, feel, and finish of the lamp. If you are trying to add some light to a living room, you will want a larger decorative lamp that has quite a bit of light output and also can work in with your room's design. You don't have to settle on only small, light weight, ultra simple designs. There are better options available in the market.

In the past, open floor plan living rooms were left with only overhead lighting or having to run lamp cords across the floor or worse, under rugs (which is a fire hazard!).
